Enchanted Rock

Karl and Michelle invited us to go hiking with them at Enchanted Rock this weekend. Lately there's been a pattern of beautiful week turning into a stormy weekend. The weather forecaster's predicted the rains would hit late Thursday/early Friday morning. Rain would start again early Saturday morning and clear out midday. Apart from a light sprinkle it didn't rain Friday so we figured Saturday would probably be okay.
So if the the meteorologist is wrong half the time I guess that means he/she is right half the time. This is good British hiking weather so we continued on.

Arriving at Enchanted Rock we found that is was still raining and most of the trails closed.

So, we drove back into Fredericksburg and went to the National Museum of the Pacific War. The museum is an out growth of the Nimitz Museum. Admiral Chester Nimitz was commander-in-chief of the United State Pacific Fleet during World War II and a local Fredericksburg boy before that. 
The museum was really well done albeit the content was tragic. We emerged to find the rain had stopped by the end of lunch the clouds were clearing.

So, completely unlike General Douglas MacArthur's return to the Philippines we went back to Enchanted Rock and found the trails re-opened. Hurrah!

It was pouring with rain here five hours ago. I can't believe it.

T-Brick Shed: Rubble Trench French Drain Installation

The last thing Jean told me before she left for the UK was that I had better finish the shed project before she gets back or else. The trench was a little soggy still but I decided to press on with the french drain installation for fear what that else may be (Although, I'm hoping the "else" will be make me a delicious sandwich). I dug out the high section blocking  the drain outlet and and cleaned up a some edges before putting down landscape fabric and a layer of gravel. Putting down the landscape fabric in the trench. Landscape fabric is water permeable but significantly less sediment permeable. This will help prevent the gravel and french drain from becoming blocked up with silt. Here's my work crew. T-Brick Shed: Preliminary Roof Design

Here's a design I came up with this weekend for a monoslope roof. Granted, it's not terribly original nor natural it should do the job and be relatively easy to construct. Sheathed with plywood and metal panels. Here's the framing detail for the roof. We'll infill the side jack walls with cob and wine bottles(something like the picture below)
