Clean a gutter with your Mother-in-law Day

Image
Wait...You didn't know that was a holiday? It's right up there other "in-law" holidays like: Remove invasive species with your in-laws day Construct a chicken coop with your in-laws day Go on a hike in inclement weather with your in-laws day Build a cob structure with your in-laws day And my in-laws personal favourite: Subject your in-laws to a worker placement game day ...You haven't heard those holidays either? Hmm. Perhaps, you should get out more. Holiday!!!! And to answer your question, yes, I am taking pictures of you cleaning the gutter

Quail: More Hatchlings

Image
I received a second batch of fertilized eggs(this time from Minnesota) a couple of weeks ago. 19 of the 31 eggs have hatched. Drying off in the incubator Instead of the water trough this time, I installed a hanging bottle with water nipples. The chicks didn't have any issues with using them. The warmth cave   I like the warmth cave better than a heat lamp for a couple of reasons: There's less of a fire hazard The chicks seem to be more relaxed. I don't know if it's because they have a place to hide or just not having a light on all the time. The downside is that according to my measurements the cave only heats up the interior to 15°-20°F greater than the ambient temperature. To quote Jean, "They are soooooo cute!" Using the water nipples After a couple of days they've doubled in size A tiny bit of variation. The yellow chick will turn white as an adult.

Here's another hike I wasn't on but felt obliged to mention here. Jean has been opting to work Monday through Thursdays of late leaving her Fridays open for adventuring. Lake Georgetown. There's a ~26 mile hiking trail circumnavigating it. I think Jean did about eight of that today.
