Devil's River: Day 4

Final day. We've made it relatively unscathed thus far. There have been a few small set backs though:

Aaron: Leaky sleeping pad and banged up shin scored whilst scouting out campsites
Jeff: Lost knife
Bryan: Lost fishing pole and weird rash brought on by cold temperatures
Steve: Fruit & Nut Medley overdose
Jeremy: Contusions received during cliff jumping at Dolan Falls
Jerry: Medical issue that I won't explain here but Jerry would happy to discuss if you asked him
All: Beef jerky overindulgence

Not half bad.

The outfitter is meeting us at the take out point at 10 am so we got an early start. Steve swore off his Fruit & Nut medley in expectation of cheeseburger for lunch.

A little sore and quite a bit dirtier than we were a few days ago but we made it.

That was gorgeous! Who knew Texas had a river like that? Personally I think the kayaker who went through the rapids in reverse has my vote!! Great descriptions, Aaron!

T-Brick Shed: Rubble Trench French Drain Installation

The last thing Jean told me before she left for the UK was that I had better finish the shed project before she gets back or else. The trench was a little soggy still but I decided to press on with the french drain installation for fear what that else may be (Although, I'm hoping the "else" will be make me a delicious sandwich). I dug out the high section blocking  the drain outlet and and cleaned up a some edges before putting down landscape fabric and a layer of gravel. Putting down the landscape fabric in the trench. Landscape fabric is water permeable but significantly less sediment permeable. This will help prevent the gravel and french drain from becoming blocked up with silt. Here's my work crew. T-Brick Shed: Preliminary Roof Design

Here's a design I came up with this weekend for a monoslope roof. Granted, it's not terribly original nor natural it should do the job and be relatively easy to construct. Sheathed with plywood and metal panels. Here's the framing detail for the roof. We'll infill the side jack walls with cob and wine bottles(something like the picture below)
