Road trip!
This summer's road trip took us north, to meet-up with our friends Leslie and Michael, and to enjoy the cooler climes. When Leslie and Michael left Austin last year, Leslie planted the idea of meeting-up at Mount Rushmore. When we found it's within a beautiful national forest, perfect for camping, hiking, caving and lake swimming, we didn't need any more encouragement. After several months of anticipation and planning, Aaron and I set-off. First stop on route was Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas, about 9 hours drive north-west of Austin. It's the second largest canyon in the US. We went there years ago with a our friend, Ben, and I've been wanting to go back since.
We saw the Texas show musical, where the stage continues into the backdrop of the canyon and the show includes horses galloping by in the background!

The next day we hit the road again, finally leaving Texas, then crossing the edge of Oklahoma and then continuing along the east of Colorado. We didn't find any camping spots so we continued north and into Nebraska, and treated ourselves to a night in a hotel in Sidney.
