The most grueling three days

The most grueling three days started with a trip to Manly. We expected the day to be a beautiful ferry ride down Sydney harbour followed by a gentle cycle ride and a day at the beach...

(Note: Thanks to Amy for taking these wonderful photos we've posted on the blog, there were so many it was hard to choose.)

Amy had thoroughly researched the best places to visit in Sydney and suggested we hire bikes in Manly then cycle up to North Head. Aaron and I had walked around North Head before (see our previous blog The old quarantine station) and knew that there are amazing views there, so it sounded like a great idea. However having never cycled up there I'd forgotten what an incredibly steep hill the road leading up there is!

We made it! - View from North Head looking back on Sydney harbour
It was a beautiful day - I've never seen it looking so picturesque with so many sail boats

Great photo of John!

We're standing on a cliff of a similar height, having cycled up there from just above sea-level!
Not only is Amy great at taking landscapes, but also action shots!

What a beautiful day ... and a great work-out! Walking, cruising, cycling, swimming and frisbee playing! I was glad to hear that Amy and John would recommend this to anyone visiting Sydney, it was great to see so much in one day (if a little tiring!)

The next day we'd be reminded of why not to let Aaron plan a hiking route! ...

NEVER let Aaron plan the hiking route--or backpacking either (personal experience!!)

Amy does take the most amazing photos! She competes with the 'visit Australia' adverts we are seeing over here at the moment. Are you going to try sailing? The harbour looks busy.

Sailing - funny you should mention it we tried it yesterday! Hopefully there will be a blog to come soon.

Hiking - mind you it probably doesn't matter who plans the route - if it's not already exhausting Aaron will find a diversion to make it so!

It was a great well-rounded day with plenty of sight-seeing, beach, and photo opportunities. The bike ride up the hill to North Head WAS a bit much, but hiking it would've been slower & not all that much easier. Plus, it was nice to cruise downhill on the bike afterwards! Our time at the beach was a fantastic siesta after all the activity earlier in the day. You guys are lucky to have good day trip beaches so close to the city.
